Shiny Pokémon are rare versions of Pokémon in Pokémon go that have modified looks. They are called shiny because, generally, they have a slight sheen added to them that makes them stand out more than the normal versions. This guide explains how to get the shiny versions of Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar.

Shiny Rates

Apart from the Pokémon that don’t have shiny versions in the game, every Pokémon has a base shiny rate assigned to it that tells you how often you’ll see a shiny version of them under normal circumstances. The shiny rate for Gastly is about 1 in 500; so, for every 500 Gastlys you find in the wild, you’ll probably only see one shiny version.

Haunter and Gengar are rarely seen in the wild. Because of this, it’s hard to determine exactly what their shiny rates are. Chances are, the only way you’ll be able to get a Shiny Haunter or Shiny Gengar is by evolving a Shiny Gastly.

Shiny rates change for Pokémon featured during Community Day events. The standard shiny rate on these days is 1 in 25.

How to Get Shiny Gastly

There is no way to force a Shiny Gastly to appear. Instead, players must simply play the game to hope to run into one. However, there are a few tricks players can use to make it easier to find them.

  • Play during events that feature Gastly. There has already been a Community Day event for Gastly, so there likely won’t be another one for a very long time. However, there is a Spotlight Hour featuring Gastly on Oct. 12, 2021. Spotlight Hours don’t boost the shiny rate for Pokémon, but it greatly increases their spawn rate. It’s entirely possible to encounter 500 Gastly or more during the Spotlight Hour, so there is a very good chance you’ll run into a shiny version.Look for Gastly nests. You’ll find a lot more Gastlys in specific areas where they spawn. You can use the Silph Road Nest Atlas to find nests marked by other players. Nests don’t increase the shiny rate, but they increase the spawn rate of specific Pokémon. This makes it more likely to find a shiny Gastly.
