Hippopotas Sand is a TM crafting material in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet used to make the two Technical Machines, Sandstorm TM051 and Sleep Talk TM070. Sandstorm is a Rock-type Move that is capable of changing the weather on the battlefield by producing a sandy blizzard. It is highly effective when used against Fire-, Ice-, Bug-, and Flying-type opponents. Capable of enabling a pocket monster to use Moves while asleep, Sleep Talk is a Normal-type Move that Pokémon like Dondozo, Wigglytuff, Pikachu, and Hippopotas can use. Crafting these Technical Machines will require Hippopotas Sand ×3, meaning players will need to farm the Pokémon that drops this specific TM material.

Finding Hippopotas Sand in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

As its name implies, Hippopotas Sand in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is dropped by Hippopotas, a Hippo Pokémon that prefers the dry and sweltering climate of the Asado Desert. Trainers can find Hippopotas on the western side of the Asado Desert, the area directly south of Porto Marinada. This is the same region where players can encounter Wild Hippowdons.

How to get Finneon Scales in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Hippopotas is weak to Water-, Ice-, and Grass-type Moves, abilities that can be utilized to subdue the hippo for a successful capture. Alternatively, Trainers can easily catch Hippopotas and farm Hippopotas Sand using Quick Balls in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. According to Gamepur, Quick Balls can be found throughout the world via exploration, but the best way to acquire these special Poké Balls is by obtaining six Gym Badges. Once this feat has been achieved, players will be able to buy Quick Balls at Pokécenters for 1,000 Pokédollars or LP. Using these balls, Trainers can typically “insta-catch” Wild Hippopotas.

As mentioned above, Hippopotas Sand in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is used for crafting Sandstorm TM051 and Sleep Talk TM070. Game8 states that Sandstorm can be found atop a tower within the central section of East Province (Area Three). Once players have found this Technical Machine, they can craft it at a TM Machine using Hippopotas Sand ×3, Sandygast Sand ×3, and Silicobra Sand ×3. Sleep Talk is located beneath a tree on the southwestern side of Cascarrafa. This TM is made using Slowpoke Claws ×3 and Hippopotas Sand ×3. Bear in mind that the Move Sleep Talk uses when its user is asleep is random.
