The Redstone mechanisms in Minecraft have depended on visual and physical movement for years. But all of that is about to change with the release of the Minecraft 1.19 update. This update brings a family of sculk blocks to the game, and one of them is the sculk sensor. This block is the informant for the Warden in Minecraft 1.19 but can also make your Redstone machines efficient. That is, as long as you know how to use the sculk sensor in Minecraft. So, let’s not waste time and learn everything you need to know about the sculk sensor.

First, we will go over the history and mechanics of the sculk sensor and directly skip to how it works and its usage with Redstone through the table below.

What is a Sculk Sensor in Minecraft

A sculk sensor is a sculk block and a Redstone component that detects vibrations around itself and releases Redstone signals. This block also sends signals to the Warden and reveals the source of the detected vibrations. It also glows slightly after detecting the vibration and while sending out the signal.

As for the vibrations, the block picks up almost all movements and activities in the game within a 9-block radius. But it doesn’t detect the Warden, other sculk sensors, and sneaking players. Moreover, it also ignores vibrations if there is a wool block between the sensor and the source of vibration.

The sculk sensor only spawns in the Deep Dark biome. Here, you can find the sculk sensor generating naturally, even in areas that don’t have the Ancient City. Though, it spawns at a much higher rate closer to the city.

How to Get Sculk Sensor in Minecraft

The sculk sensor is one of the more common blocks that spawn in the new Deep Dark biome. But, to mine and pick up the sculk sensor, you need to use the silk touch enchantment on any in-game tool. You can use our dedicated Minecraft enchantments guide to easily learn how to apply it in no time.

The sculk sensor follows these game mechanics to function in Minecraft 1.19:

Wool is known to dampen sounds in Minecraft. Because of that, you can use wool blocks to block sources of vibrations from reaching the sculk sensor when required. Similarly, the sculk sensor can’t detect vibrations caused by footsteps or items being dropped on the wool blocks.

How to Use Sculk Sensor with Redstone

The sculk sensor works just like other signal sending blocks. If you connect the sensor to other Redstone components, they will receive a signal and get activated when the sensor detects a vibration. Then, you can use it to light the Redstone torch, play note blocks, and even trigger blocks like a dispenser in Minecraft.

The sculk sensor gives out Redstone signals when it detects vibrations, so you can place them next to any Redstone machine. Doing so will make that machine activate whenever it detects vibrations. Then, you can use the sculk sensor in the following ways:
