If you happen to stumble upon the error Unable to connect to authentication service in League of Legends, chances are you’ll need to do one of three things: update your firewall, check the service status, or change your DNS settings.
Check the service status
Although the root of the problem could very well stem from your own settings, Riot Games has also been known to play the culprit in the past. Checking the service settings can determine whether or not the issue is with your hardware, or with Riot Games. If it’s the latter, then all you can do is wait until the issues are resolved.
Update your firewall
Chances are, your firewall is in need of an update. Although the firewall itself isn’t prone to disrupt communication with League of Legends, an outdated one can be the cause of the error. In this instance, you will need to update it. Alternatively, you can temporarily disable the firewall altogether.
Disable the firewall

Change your DNS settings
Changing your DNS settings is another way to remove the error. To do this, you will need to swap your current settings out for Google’s Public DNS, which is 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4.
- Click Start Click Control Panel Click Network and Internet Click Network and Sharing Center Click Change Adapter settings Right-click on your Network (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) and select PropertiesCheck the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Click PropertiesCheck Use the following DNS server addresses Input 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4.
