Communication is the key to winning any team-based battle royale game like Fortnite. Having a faulty voice chat is quite a common problem and it can ruin the experience for you and your teammates. So if you are wondering how to fix that, we got you covered!

Check Channels

There are two primary voice chat channels in Fortnite: Party and Game Channel. Party Channel connects a player to other teammates in the same party queuing in the lobby together. On the other hand, Game Channel connects a player on the same team with different parties.

Entering the wrong voice chat will broadcast audio from teammates who are cross-playing on different platforms. Open up the social menu to see which of your friends are in the lobby with you, and enter that specific channel.

Console Settings

Console players must leave their respective Xbox or PlayStation Party Chat to use Fortnite’s in-game voice chat. Adjusting the DNS setting often fixes Fortnite’s voice chat issue for console players. Here’s how you can check and change your DNS settings from console settings:

Xbox

  • Go to System tab and move over Advanced SettingsClick on DNS settings, and then check on manual.Enter the following as the new DNS servers:Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4Retry voice chat.

PlayStation

  • Go to Settings and move to Setup internet connection.Choose Custom setup.Choose Automatic IP address settings. For DNS Settings select manual.Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4Retry voice chat.

The Primary DNS needs to be set to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS at 8.8.4.4. Make sure to check your internet speed and settings before implementing this change.

PC Settings

For PC players, the default option for Windows audio input and output would be enabled in Fortnite with push-to-talk voice settings. If you have multiple input devices then follow these steps to change your default device:

  • Open Control Panel from Windows and go to Sound settingsChange the default audio device to your prefered output (headphone) from the Playback TabChange the default audio device to your prefered input (microphone) from the Recording TabApply settings

Fortnite voice chat will not run without a full Windows update, so make sure to have all the latest drivers installed.
