Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features several multiplayer modes for players to sync with their friends and compete against other players online. Because of the game’s popularity, there’s bound to be a few issues, and the servers may even hiccup a little bit, forcing everyone to have some downtime. Another problem players run into has to do with a “failed to host the lobby” error. Is there a way around it?
The failed to host lobby error is a reoccurring problem for those attempting to play the Zombies mode, and in that game, you want to have as many friends connect to you as possible.
This connection problem has something to with things on your side, but you want to make sure it’s you. It never hurts to double-check to see if it’s on Activision’s side of things, so you have to wait for them to sort it out if it is. After you verify that it’s on your side, you’ll have to try to change your network settings. You can do this from the advanced settings in the options menu. You can verify you’re using the correct connection for your router. This may force you to restart the application or the console you’re using and start it up again.
If you’re still encountering the problem and playing it on PC, you want to try running the Blizzard application as the admin. Close the application, run it as an admin, and then start it up again. It never hurts to restart your router and then start it back up again to avoid the problem.
Other players have reported that they were able to get around the issue by using a VPN. For those who have one, feel free to explore this option. But try the other methods first before resorting to it.
It never hurts to try having another player holding the lobby. If your computer is the problem with the error, having a friend host might clear it up.
