There’s a whole new world available for Fortnite players in the latest Chapter 2 update. The original Fortnite map got sucked into a black hole, and now players have access to a whole new range of challenges, items, and mechanics. Epic Games has made the water a much bigger deal, and with it, the introduction of fishing. You can now fish in Fortnite, and here’s how.

How to Fish and Get a Fishing Rod in Fortnite Chapter 2

You’re going to see small fishing pools around large and small bodies of water. If you see water, you have the chance to get in on the fishing action. These pools are going to have tiny bubbles coming from the middle of them. However, players are not going to get the chance to walk up to these areas and start fishing. The first thing they need to do is find a pole.

How to Find a Fishing Rod

The fishing rod is critical. Players are going to need to find one by exploring the map. You might want to check out near the docks, near areas where players might noticeably find fishing gear, or locate them by opening up chests. The first fishing pole I ran into was inside of a chest. However, if you approach a dock, you’re going to find a large barrel full of them. Walk up to the barrel to search it, and you’re going to pull out a rod, hands down. For those who can’t find them in chests, this is the best way to locate them.

When you get your fishing rod, it’s going to take up a slot in your inventory. It’s going to be similar to holding a weapon, medpack, or any other item. Make sure you have room if you’re going to pick it up.

Fishing with your Rod

When you have your rod, you’re going to need to take it to one of these bubbling locations. You cannot run up to any side of the water and throw out your line. You need to find an area where fish are gathering, which you can see above. Reference this when you’re searching for any waterways to start fishing at when you’re in-game.

When you get there, you’re going to need to cast out using the button prompt on your screen. It’s going to vary on what platform you’re playing on. You’re going to see a red bobber hovering in the water, slowly moving across the water.

You don’t want to pull back too quickly because you won’t get anything. You need to wait for that red bobber to dip down into the water, and then pull it back using the same button you used to cast it out. If it went down and pulled at the correct time, you’re going to receive a fish. These fish have different uses and effects when you eat it.

That’s all you need to know about fishing in Fortnite‘s latest Chapter 2 update.
