Early on in Diablo 2: Resurrected, you’re tasking with finding and saving Deckard Cain from the lost city of Tristram. To get there, you’ll need to journey across several of Sanctuary’s locales. This quest can get a bit confusing if you’ve never done it before, so if you’re lost, make sure to check out our guide below.
How to start the Search for Cain
The Search for Cain quest unlocks right after you wrap up the Blood Raven quest. Akara will ask you to head to the Dark Wood to find The Tree of Inifuss. This will then give you the ability to activate the Cairn Stones and teleport to Tristram.
To get to the Dark Woods, you’ll need to navigate the Underground Passage. This can be a pretty cut-and-dry prospect, but it’s important to note that the Underground Passage has two exits. One takes you to the second level of the Passage, which has some decent loot, but won’t get you where you need to go. The other takes you to the Dark Woods. This is the one to look for.
Where to find The Tree of Inifuss
Unfortunately, you can’t just follow the path to find The Tree of Inifuss. Instead, you’ll need to venture off into the wilds. Since Diablo 2: Resurrected uses randomized maps, we can’t tell you the Tree’s exact location.
However, we can say that you’re looking for a group of Brutes that are led by a super unique named Treehead Woodfist. These enemies always spawn right next to the Tree. If you spot them, you’ve found what you’re looking for.
What to do about Cain
Once you’ve gotten the scroll and had it deciphered by Akara, it’s time to head to The Cairn Stones and rescue Cain. If you missed these in the Stony Field your first time through, just hunt around and you’ll find them.
When you’re in Tristam, you want to head to the city’s center. There, you can rescue Cain from the all demons. We’d also suggest heading to the left of town and searching for Wirt’s body. It drops a wooden leg that you’ll need to get into the secret Cow Level later in the game.
