Making your way around the map can take a bit of time in Baldur’s Gate 3. Rather than taking too much time walking from location to location, you can use the fast travel system to zip around. This way, you won’t have to feel like you’re wasting your time attempting to complete quests or meet up with new characters across the map. You don’t fast travel to named locations or notable NPCs. Instead, there’s a specific system ou have to use, and it has a set of rules.
You can see the fast travel locations on your map. They should appear to look like purple cyclones, a small storm in the middle of nowhere. When you approach these locations, they’re ruins carved into a wall or on specific locations. When interacting with them, you can venture across the map instantly, or return to your camp to meet with your party members, have a long rest, or use your camp’s storage to keep any special items you want to use later for safekeeping.
Fast traveling does not require you to be in front of these locations to use them. So long as you’ve gone pass them in your travels, you can open up your map and instantly transport your party to them while they are in a safe location. You won’t be able to do it while in combat.
The more locations you find, the more fast travel points you can likely use. The map does not directly show them until you find them, so it’s worth wandering around the darker edges of a new region to investigate. However, make sure to save often before venturing into unknown territory as there’s always something dangerous awaiting your arrival nearby.
